Live 360 is back with another installment of our Top 5 Xbox 360 Games. Last week we brought you the Top 5 FPS, and now it is time for the Top 5 Role Playing Games on the Xbox 360. The following list is compiled based on graphics, gameplay, story, sound, longevity, innovation, and plain ol’ fun. Our decisions are heavily debated and you may or may not agree with us. After reading our list, send a comment our way and tell us whats on your mind.
Now here it is, Live-360’s Top 5 RPG’s!
Number 5- Marvel Ultimate Alliance

Some of you might know this game as the game that came with your Xbox 360, but it is so much more. Marvel Ultimate Alliance takes one on a superhero roller coaster ride as a variety of superheroes from your favorite comics must stop Dr. Doom and his minions from stealing the powers of a God and tearing the universe apart. The story is very compelling and the way its told; between CGI cutscenes, in game cutscenes, and much more, makes it even better. The gameplay, while not amazing, is very fun and addictive and the level design is incredible and very diverse. And while it is not a traditional RPG, it is one none the less and earns a spot on our list.
Number 4- Eternal Sonata

Eternal Sonata is one of those rare gems, a diamond in the rough. This game has been overlooked by many but loved by all who have played it. In Enternal Sonata you enter a dream of a famous composer, named Frederic Chopin. The world is very rich and vibrant and is music inspired, the dream takes place in a musical composers head after all. The original soundtrack for this game, and the turn based combat system is fun, but not amazing. You will spend about 25 hours in this beautiful world and you will have lots of fun, but it isn’t enough to be higher on this list.
Number 3- Lost Odyssey

Lost Odyssey is the most recent RPG to come out on the Xbox 360, but takes on a very old type of RPG, the JRPG. For those of you that don’t know, JRPG stands for Japanese Role Playing Game and usually the combat system is turned based and the story is told through mostly CGI Cutscenes. Both of which are true for Lost Odyssey. However, it manages to still be a great experience, the graphics, fueled by the Unreal Engine are great, and rings add something new to the combat. Rings have to be collected and they give your characters special abilities. You can combine them and must use them strategically to help defeat who you are fighting against. This adds a new dimension to the usually plain Turned Based Combat System. While it is very fun, the story of finding 1000 years of lost memories isn’t exactly Grammy worthy and the load screens never seem to end. These problems hold Lost Odyssey back from being #1 on our list.
Number 2- Mass Effect

Mass Effect is a truly special game. Its graphics and sound are top notch. The character communication; best we’ve ever seen. And the story, one of the best ever told in a videogame. What could be wrong with this game? It’s not fun? Nope its a blast. The problem is for an RPG, it is very short. The side missions are less side missions and more, the same 3 underground caves with a few people to kill inside. The main story is an insane ride with decisions you must make, but it takes about 20 hours to beat. After that there is really nothing else to do, and that holds Mass Effect back from being #1.
Number 1- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Oblivion contains many of the things that make Mass Effect great. Graphics, Sound, Story, Gameplay, its all amazing. But what does it have that makes it number one? Guilds. Guilds are another storyline that takes about 15 hours to complete, they are extremely fun, contain very unique quests and have stories that rival the greatness of the main one. Also it includes a vast world that you can explore, dungeons to raid, and cities to help. There is so much content on one disk that it is mindboggling, and none of it is boring, rehashed garbage. Oblivion is an amazing game and deserves to be in everyone’s collection.
Man that is just sad.
This article should have been called “The Only RPGs The 360 has..”
Cuz, seriously, this is all it has. Besides, you’re missing the point of RPG has always meant, Role-Playing-Game, Marvel Alliance is about as much an RPG as Madden ‘08 is an RPG.

I agree with the list, but I don’t think that Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is really an RPG. But I can’t think of a game that could replace it, because I thought Blue Dragon was terrible.
