Well, recently we managed to get our hands on Stuntman: Ignition right on ship date thanks to Gamefly. We have spent some precious time with the game. Similar to the first Stuntman, but with some much needed fixes, this game offers a fun but intense experience. If you haven’t played a Stuntman game before, you obviously play as a Stuntman completing stunt lines for your director. It’s a trial and error game, the first run-through usually consists of you just looking at the stunts, and the next 4-5 tries consist of you trying to perfect the run.The trial and error gameplay is incredibly addicting, making you want to perfect your run and sting the maximum possible combo. The game makes them hard to achieve, but still possible. If you aren’t a fan of trying to complete a level ( you can make 5 mistakes per level ) and trying to perfect it, than this game isn’t for you. You might think you would get bored playing the same level over and over again, but it actually is really fun and maintains a constant but exciting pace.
The game presents itself nicely, and all the menus are nicely presented and very accessible. The options consist of Career, Multiclash, Constructor, Quick Fix, and the options and extras. Career is your basic career mode where you can do 6 different movies each with 6 different stunt lines. You can also do ‘odd jobs’ where you can do commercials or shorter clips. The odd jobs are a lot harder, as you can only have one mistake. Multiclash is your multiplayer mode, constructor is where you can construct your own stunt levels or do the constructor challenge. Quick Fix is the option you select if you just feel like messing around on a movie set.
The career mode is around 3-4 hours long if you just rush through it and are a god at being a stuntman. But if you only get 2 stars, you are going to have to bring them up to at least 3 to unlock the next movies. The 6 movies in the game are Aftershock, Whoopin and Hollerin II, Strike Force Omega, Overdrive, Never Kill Me Again, and Night Avenger. Each are a homage to some classic stunt driving movies ( such as Dukes of Hazard and James Bond ). Once you complete each movie, you unlock a movie trailer which showcases your driving while combining it into a cutscene. It’s pretty satisfying to watch.
The multiplayer modes are fun and we haven’t experienced any lag thus far. But where the game really shines is that you can create your own stunt arenas and share them with you friends. You have to unlock most of the pieces, however, but this just gives you incentive to complete the single player campaign. Some people make some pretty insane stunt courses that are very fun to complete. This adds to the somewhat limited longevity of the game.
Overall, this game is another good Xbox 360 game to add to the list. The driving is far from realistic for all you Forza fans, but it manages to maintain a sense of perfection that not many other games can. And who hasn’t wanted to be a stunt driver? Some of the stunts are pretty insane and fun to pull off. The graphics aren’t the best, but they aren’t the worst either. The movies all take place in different areas and offer a nice change of pace and location.
Overall Score : 8
Final words : A fun game that keeps you entertained for about an hour at a time. A great rental.
