We’re all paying for XBOX Live here. Other consoles have inferior, but free online gaming features. The PC has free and much superior online play. So my question is why do we continue to pay for a service that doesn’t even have a server for an individual game? When Halo 3 came out, Live froze every 5 seconds, because of the load of new users. Since we are paying $50 each, why can’t Microsoft buy every game a server?
The biggest complaint for Live comes with price. You hear people talking about Live should be free and all. The price isn’t that bad, and the service is a lot better than the Playstation Network. However, the Playstation Network has one advantage and that is the fact that every game has its own server. This generally means that each game doesn’t have to bear the burden of another. When Halo 3 came out, the entire XBOX Live service wouldn’t have had issues if Halo 3 was running on its own set of dedicated servers.
The biggest benefit for Live comes from downloadable content and demos however. They download much faster than on any other console, and sometimes even faster than PC patches (EA’s servers are slow). So we have an advantage there. Is it worth $50, then money for every little content pack? And what about going on Halo 2, and getting the message about updating or working on the servers and having to wait 5 minutes to be able to search on matchmaking. Annoying on a service I’m paying for to say the least.
I wouldn’t even include the part about paying to get the fastest downloads, because technically we don’t pay for that. The silver service gets the same benefits for free.

xbox 360 owners are sheep, thats why they own the system in the first place. I mean look, all their best games(Gear, Halo, BioSHock, Mass Effect, etc.) are available on PC and they run better on it.
Now PSN on the other hand may download slower(which you can fix by going to the pc version of the store then transferring the content to your console) may not have all the features just yet but once home comes out it will have everything xboxlive does and more.

When Home launches, it’ll be better than live AND free. In addition to that, way better games are coming out for ps3 this year, and to be quite honest, the 360 is almost hitting it’s peak. It’s a good system, but MS definitely didn’t build a futureproof machine.
There really shouldn’t be any reason that Live should cost what it does once Sony upgrades their service, and if Nintendo follows suit.

Why people continue to sledge a console they obviously havn’t even played a game on is beyond me. Perhaps it’s the evil little fanboy/girl inside or maybe just wishful thinking.
I have both 360 and PS3 and enjoy them both. Sure 360 ruled the roost for a while but times are changing. For sledgers of PS3 that call it just a BluRay player, look at the facts. Exclusive titles kick 360 exclusives butt in terms of graphics and gameplay. Third party titles, (from devs that actually know how to use the PS3), are now superior to the 360 versions in graphics, content and processing speed.
Many Devs are now leading on PS3 because it’s easier for them to downgrade the games specs to the 360’s inferior tech specs than upgrade a 360 version to PS3.
Dedicated servers online also win out over the peer to peer lagfest that is xbox live, (GOW anyone?).
In my mind PS3 wins for media playback too if only for the whisper quiet fan over the noisy mess that microsoft sold us.
The cost of a PS3 and what it includes in terms of technology straight out of the box, shows how much MS are ripping off the customer for a console in it’s 3rd year.
Loving your prefered console is fine but at least get informed before bagging the opposition. You may find out that you will end up eating your words.

The PS3 already delivers jen. If you had one you would know that for yourself, and not base your feedback on what other 360fanboys write in their PS3 sledgefests.
That’s ok though, keep clinging on to that dream while you can. One day you will wake up to reality.
360 games hit the peak with GOW using 90% of the capabilities of the console. GOW2 will look exactly the same. Don’t get me wrong, I love Gears and am happy with what the 360 has given me in the past, (apart from the DVD ROM errors I got from my brand new AU$650 console).
Third party titles that use 90% of 360’s capability are using less than a third of the PS3’s grunt.
360 is actually holding back games development due to lower specs and the core systems lack of hard drive.

Well if you guys have played on the ps3 and 360 you will find that the 360 has much more lag and ps3 does not that is a myth of the ps3 downloading slower. my ps3 downloaded my uncharted demo in about 3 min. 360 downloaded my frontlines fuel of war demo in about 2 hours. Oh and your paying technically $100 or more to play 360 on-line because you have to pay for the high speed then for the xbox live itself. Also you are paying to play on soneone else conecting and you can’t always trust that. Your not you useing a dedicated server which would create no lag and ps3 has no lag for example warhawk no lag and that is up to I believe 64 players on-line and no lag for the ps3. Don’t get me wrong thier are some titles that are on the 360 that aren’t on ps3 yes but if i want to play a lag free game then I’ll go to ps3. So don’t even say that ps3 has inferior internet, come on you can have the internet. The 360 so far seems like a last gen with better graphics and some colors that make you attracted to use the dashboard. Everyone one will say but we get updates on the 360 yeah but only twice a year were as ps3 every week for different part of thier on-line. Oh and the 360 has many people buying it because it is cheap. Supposedly the ps3 is in for once agian a price drop just rumors but I’ll double check. Talk all you want on which one is better thier are flaws in each just say this I think that both systems are great but I don’t have enough time to play them both and ask the some one for longer day so we have more time to play cause 24 hours is not enough.

I guess I changed my ways halfway through the post. It was meant to make fun of what xbox people say. Look,tigers, you were a ps3 owner at LAUNCH. That was over a year ago. Games now are WAY better and there are TONS of things to choose from. Uncharted, R&C, Resistance, PSN Games, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Lair, Motorstorm, Folklore, some GOOD multiplatform games, and of course, all the exclusives coming out this year. But this article’s about paying for online service. Why pay for something when you can get a very similar system for FREE with DEDICATED SERVERS. And you guys are being really mature by calling people “fags” “homos” “idiots” when you have no good arguments. Yep. Convincing.

Anyone who is complaining, tell me what other service offers a friends list across all games and the ability to send messages, pictures, and cross game invite. Can’t think of any? Darn. I’ve had live for 4 years and paid $200 so far. I’d have no problem playing $100 per year. Think about it. $50 per year

The majority of people that piss and moan about paying $4 a month for the best online gaming service on the planet are almost always sony kids. In other words, the same idiots who spent $600 for the worst HD game console on the market.
I have no problem with paying $50 a year for Live, as long as the service continues R&D.

I think the reason these debates get so heated is that neither side can accept their preferred system has had ups and downs, and has strengths and weaknesses. I own both systems. And though I prefer the PS3 over the 360, should not mean that I should look over the faults of the PS3. Yes, the 360 as a console has a horrible failure rate. I’ve been through 2 machines. The PS3 glides along. Yes, the 360 is louder. Yes, the 360 has more games. Those games vary across different genres, despite popular belief. The problem is that its strongest titles are found in what appears to be same genre - the shooter. If you like Shooters then you’re right at home. There are no flagship titles for “other” genres. Yes, Xbox Live is better than PSN and if you couple that with FPS games, again you’re right at home. Look at the REALLY big sellers on 360 (the ones that make over 3 mil) they’re FPS with strong multiplayer (Gears, Halo, CoD4), Bioshock and Mass Effect, sell like the would on a PS3 arguably. What makes Live good is messaging/voice chat, manueverability, custom soundtracks. It came out earlier, so it enjoyed games earlier, having a slightly easier architecture, and more familiarity going forward. The point of contention is, of course, its price. $50 over a year isn’t too bad really, but over time it will be less attractive as the PSN grows. And this is where PS3 gains my preference. If you don’t own a PS3, you may not be able to attest to this, but it has and will continue to grow. To think that improved messaging/voice chat, custom soundtracks is somehow out of the PSN’s reach is silly. The advantage that the 360 has, is hardly unattainable. It will likely get the downloadable movies/shows, and other features this year. Though, the 360 has more games, the PS3 has stronger titles across genres. Shooter enthusiasts will have less to choose from at this stage than the 360. But that will grow. Sony has more studios, and as those studios get revved up you’ll see more exclusive games pop up. Devs will grow and become more familiar, and we’re beginning to see that now. Yes the PS3 is a blu-ray player, but to say that is all it is good at is, disingenuious. When did an extra feature become a negative thing. Some aruge that its more a media over gaming philosophy, but closer examination of the updates merely shows that these media enhancements are more easily implemented first. The problem most have with the PS3 is their inability to realize that it is nonstatic and the gap it must cross isn’t that big of gap. To be fair, the 360 is not static either, but do its architecture it will be limited in growth as Sony closes in. While MS’ decision to make the console accessible to many, it will ultimately shorten its lifespan. Upgradeable HDDs, Wi-fi, Blu-ray, and an ever-growing online strategy can turn the tide.
Another thing to add, is that Sony and MS are both huge companies. They both want to make money and have different visions of making that happen. Both companies are made up of thousands of people, and its unfair to judge them all by the statements of one its members, no matter how high a general he/she is. That’s like hating the cook at McDonalds because some Mickey D’s CEO in a whole ‘nother state, with whom neither has met, makes a racist statement. Likely you judge a whole company based off the posts of an anonymous person on a comments page. Don’t let your frustration with them be projected onto a whole other entity. And just because a CEO tells you something and it doesn’t happen, doesn’t always mean they were lying. Like most businesses, sometimes things just can’t be done or in some other unknown way don’t add up to sound judgement.

And one more thing about Home. Its not entirely an answer to Xbox Live. PSN and Home are two different things, though they overlap a bit. Home will not replace the PSN network. You will not be forced to launch games through Home. From what I’ve heard, you won’t be forced to view your trophies from Home either. Messaging and voice-chat will not be exclusive to Home. All of the functions needed to rival Live, will be added to the PSN. So by itself, it hopes to level the playing field. It makes sense to do it this way, cause gamers dont’ want to have to “walk” everywhere to get info they want quickly. Home is more a detailed approach and step in a new direction. It hopes to build on things left out of the Live experience -community (forums, news, social, hype). It will encompass PSN features, but go beyond it as well. Its really a two-pronged attack. PSN will become Live, and Home will expand it. Effectively, what we are doing now (seeing news, posting our thoughts), people will be doing in Home, except afterward we take our frustrations out on Warhawk or R2. Our profiles become our avatars and living spaces. Surely everyone won’t join in or be excited, not everyone posts their thoughts on comments pages, but a good deal may very well partake in Home.

By the way, what’s wrong with the ps3 controller? it’s virtually the same as the 360’s but a little smaller. That doesnt make it “suck”. You all need to understand and I’m saying this and I’m very impartial when it comes to the consoles I like them all but if I have to pay $50 for live then $60+ for a good connect just to get in a game that has lag and they blame it on me you all need to see when you go into a room that is hosted by some body and they have the low end dsl they can maybe have a room that is 8 players tops without explosions due to the fact that what they are holding is themselves and 7 other connections and if you can’t hold a lot of people just don’t open a room. For example R6V2 I have gone into many rooms were the host is a kid and some adults (not all) have a dsl connection and live to far from the base to even hold four people and he/she is trying to host a 14 player room and everyone lags and blames it on everyone else. Same with a lot of adults who have egos the size of earth and you can’t say its thier connection or you get booted or they try to get you banded from xbox live and all you want to do is have fun and play a lag free match. I have hosted on my connection many times and perodically I’ll ask if anyone has lag to be sure the rooms good I’ll do the same thing after every match. To see if i have to rest my server. By the way I see a lot of people are arguing over which brand is better. People lets be grown adults and if your not why are you even on here posting. Thats Besides the point my bad. Back to the subject at hand I’m a giant nerd,geek,dork whatever you want to call me but I just keep up with technology and everything that comes with that includes prices and to find out why they charge us the consumers for this product or this service. Doesn’t matter who the company is from microsoft to apple to acer and e-machine oh sorry. E-machines merged with acer my bad. Just remember everyone the next time you post. Any of you xbox,ps3 or wii fans. Just remember if you haven’t at least tried to play the console you are talking shit about don’t say anything but if you have played at your friends not at the nearest gamestop or gamecrazy those don’t really show the true potentional of the system all three in fact. Most gamestops and gamecrazy’s still use standard def. Instead of high def and if your gamestop or game crazy does have high def then still don’t talk shit unless you have a friend who has it for online that is the only way to find out which is better to get. Do to the fact they should have online and if they don’t find a friend who does and the same console as your other friend go thier. Then base your opinion after watching and playing after a day or so. Also if you have a connection on the xbox that has lag please please don’t host. Don’t have a huge ego about your connection. If you do have lots of lag in your room just say my bad and say I’m shuting the room down do to lag. Join a game that has none so you can have fun and still kick some ass. Lag is getting bad on the 360 and I have to say I have been playing my ps3 more do to the fact that thier is a lot of lag in games. I would love to play vegas and still have fun in rooms with people who host and don’t have lag and still have fun kicking ass with them on thier connection. So lets put our arguements aside and remember that even if your a ps3 fan or a wii fan and/or 360 fan that all and all we just want to kick ass and that is what we can all agree on. So please get back to the price issue and I can name a few games that 360 has exclusive that suck ass and ps3 but you know thats not how you base a system is not by the games its by the hardware. Who cares what games come out all they want is your money. so since you guys do want to talk about games here you go for all you fan boys and girls that think all this good games came out on the three systems. If you bought hour of victory on xbox 360 and thouht that was a great game or conflict denied ops was or even front lines fuel of war(don’t argue with me because it was warhawk in first person with drones thats it so it sucked and warhawk is an awesome game) was good then your just retarted. Oh yeah if you play ps3 and you thought lair was good riding around on a dragon is fucking shitty. Resistance now that I think of it. It was a last gen graphics type of game and that tells you that the company that made it really needs to work on number 2 because lets just say online looked like something out of the medal of honor allied assult and I played it on 1080p and man I have got to say halo 3 looked better then it and halo3 looked just like halo two but shiny. I’m not say it was a bad game halo 3 is fun to pick and play sometimes but the graphics could of been alot better. Now the wii well I won’t talk about that they really need to look at the supply and demand in the U.S. a little better then they did before. Don’t read other reviews on IGN,N4G,G4TV, and anyothers for that matter because its how much money is given to the reviewers and how much money that get from advertising on thier web site its all about the all mighty buck (thats not slander thats the truth). For example Front lines fuel of war got an 7.6 from IGN and OXM gave it a well 9.0 I could be wrong about OXM but of course thier not going to say it its a 7.6 or less then a 9.0 cause they want people that don’t have a 360 to buy one for this game because they are in the down fall in the console wars. At a 30% failure rate still and thay have lied. Just check on any of the gaming news sites. You know make your own opinion of games just don’t push it on people. I hated Front lines and readers gave it a 9.0 and that just tells you how much of a childish system 360 is becomeing. Don’t get me wrong I like a lot more games on the 360 then I dislike and same goes for the rest of the consoles. Some games on each of the consoles make me sick and I ask myself how does a publisher push for a game that shouldn’t even be released yet and they push it out the door so fast that it looks like shit and the advertise it to be an awesome game and to say its the next best first person shooter or whatever. Then I started to review games on my own because I can’t trust peoples opinion anymore due to the fact they only play 10 min into the demo on top of it as areviewer and/or just watch something the company sends. I don’t review until have have at least 12 hours into the game. Even then I still can’t because sometimes but rarely it happens that it gets better. You know I don’t want to push my opinions on all of you and I don’t mean to I’m giving you all advice you can take it or leave it I have been playing video games since pong and I still think if I had to revert back to that I would because its timeless classic that no one can take from you its not violet or really a sports game and takes no skill what so ever and let me say that people need to think back to atari or nes or sega with the bad graphics (now not then) and no gamerscore or whatever and say that is what I consider gaming and a person who invites thier friends over to play levels of mario or sonic or even pac-man. That person still has right to say I’m a true gamer because they are time less and no one cared which was better at least I didn’t. Now that I’m older I laugh when I heard about the blu-ray or high def dvds I thought back to cds and cassettes. and I’m sorry I have to end this my wife and kids want me to play frogger and I have to go. So ever one please just listen to this advice and take it in think for yourself and be who you are don’t follow the crowd be a leader. Not of xbox and ps3 or the wii because we have enough of that on here. Those are my opinions and not anyone elses and I’m not forcing my opinions on any of you and not taking sides I think they have thier own quality’s as a console and games.
