How Life360 helped Carrissa get back on track after her car crash
Our users at Life360 often share stories of how they’re using the app – whether it’s about how they are staying connected with their families or have peace of mind from monitoring new teenage drivers. The stories of gratitude we receive on a daily basis keeps us working hard to constantly improve our app. We recently connected with one of our users, Carrissa, who offered to share her own powerful story about how Life360 helped save her after a car crash.
On April 17, 2020, 23-year old Carrissa was making the drive home from her best friend’s house– a five mile drive she had completed many times before. It was around midnight when Carrissa left and when she got into her car, she paired her phone to her wireless bluetooth speaker. To occupy her mind while driving in the dark, she called her boyfriend on her hands-free device.
I don’t like driving at night so I like to speak hands-free on the phone, Carrissa said. It keeps me occupied.
Only about ten minutes away from home, Carrissa drove over a bridge. Without her knowledge, the chilly Illinois weather had covered the bridge with black ice. Still on the phone with her boyfriend, Carrissa lost control of the car as it spun out on the ice— slamming her car into the side of the bridge. Immediately, Life360’s Crash Detection activated and alerted her Circle of the accident. Additionally, emergency responders were notified as a result of the app.
Her best friend Makyla, the same friend who had convinced her to download Life360 years earlier, was notified right away and was able to find Carrissa’s exact location. Thanks to Life360, Carrissa was in the hospital within 30 minutes of her accident. Unfortunately, she sustained a few injuries including a broken leg and as a track-and-field athlete for Western Illinois University, she had to take the summer off to recover.
Now, even after my crash, Life360 is very important because the world can be dangerous, Carrissa said. It’s better to have someone have your location than to not have anyone know where you are.
Thankfully, Carrissa managed a quick recovery from her injuries and now, a year later, is back competing for WIU. She explained her gratitude for Life360 and its Crash Detection feature as well as the value of driving distraction-free. We are so happy that Carrissa is back on the track, (and field), and continues to use Life360 to help keep her friends and family safe.
Carrissa’s story is just one example of the incredible ways Life360 has impacted our users. Thank you to Carrissa for letting us share your story. We’re so thankful we could be there for you.
